Actually Useful Amazon Searches — Installation Guide

Actually Useful is a free browser userscript that enhances Amazon search results with unit price sorting, keyword filtering, and delivery date sorting. It runs in your browser using the Tampermonkey extension. It's currently in alpha testing and we are requesting your feedback.

Install the Script

  1. Go to: https://github.com/tibbalsgribbin/actually-useful/raw/refs/heads/main/actually-useful.user.js
  2. Tampermonkey will automatically detect the script and show an installation page
  3. Click Install

Verify It's Working

  1. Go to Amazon.com and search for any product — we’re interested in seeing the results of real-world searches so please search for things you would consider purchasing. Poke around the product and see if it’s intuitive to use.
  2. Wait a moment for the page to load
  3. A panel titled 💰 Actually Useful should appear on the right side of the screen
  4. The info bar near the top of the panel will show how many results have unit price data

Basic Usage

Actually Useful works best alongside Amazon's built-in filters, not instead of them. Use Amazon's left-column filters first to narrow by category, brand, or Prime eligibility — then let Actually Useful sort and compare what's left.

  • Best value sort — results are sorted by price per unit by default. The ★ star marks the best value.
  • Display in: — type a unit like oz or fl oz to convert all compatible results to that unit for easy comparison
  • Keyword filter — type words to require in results, or use a minus sign to exclude them. Example: "unscented -refill" shows only unscented products that aren't refills
  • Default order — use the sort dropdown to restore Amazon's original page order
  • Load page 2 — button at the bottom of the panel fetches the next page silently and adds results to the list

Share Your Feedback

Please use this form to share what you find: https://forms.gle/J3AECVTDHWKDZZKE7

We're especially interested in:

  • Searches where the sort order seemed wrong
  • Any prices that looked obviously incorrect
  • Features you wish it had

Screenshots are welcome — there's an upload field in the form.
