Plays a sound clip when new mail is showing on your MetaFilter account. You know the clip, famous across the world a few years ago, title of the movie with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, bad grammar? Yeah, that one.

Basically, this script is a result of my testing the HTML5 <audio> element. It turned out to be goofy enough to keep.

The script works with both modern and classic MetaFilter themes. The sound will play on entry to any main or subsite screen, but not when reading posts or doing other tasks. If that's too much, you may want to tweak the script to only trigger on the main site screen, or only play after a specific time interval. Or you can read your mail immediately.

Support, as with all my scripts, is available at http://devoresoftware.blogspot.com/. MetaFilter mail is also acceptable, and will trigger the sound here too (unless I'm using Chrome at the time.)
