YouTube - Stay Active and Play Forever

Tired of Youtube pausing playback asking you to click 'yes' to continue playing? This script will make the popup never appear, music will never stop. Never pause, never inactive, never worry. The script will keep you active and keep playing music FOREVER. Enables playing in background on mobile.

I'm using it all the time and works fine.

This is weird—I'm running it in Chrome, yet I still need to activate the page for the music to keep playing

Are you using Tampermonkey?
What version of Chrome do you have?
Have you enabled developer mode in extensions page?
Do you have any other scripts or extensions that change something on youtube?

yes

ok, try this.
Go to Tampermonkey and find this script (click to edit).
Then switch over to the settings tab and change the position to 1, so this script executes before the other youtube scripts.
If this doesn't work. I don't know what else could interfere.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't work

Well, I'm out of ideas. Maybe try with a new browser profile?

I've found that it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

I've tried on multiple tabs, all with different playlists, mixes, radio, at the same time, and all of them don't stop playing...

After some rough testing, I suspect this is related to the URL, which must be in its original form (without timeline syntax, etc.)

That has no effect on the functionality of the script

But for some reason, this operation always works for me, precisely

As long as I remove the rest of the URL, the script runs normally (at least it doesn't stop for no reason)—each instance of failure and success follows this pattern.

Do you have any example urls?

I thought it might stop on long videos of over 1-2 hours, so I had tested with some of those music album mixes and such. They all kept going.

A video of a few minutes isn't going to stop playing (like the one you shared).

Do you use adblocker, and which one?

uBlock Origin Lite

I can't reproduce the issue

The issue I'm encountering is that it may stop playing after the video finishes, even though I've set it to loop.
It only resumes when I switch back to the playback tab (sometimes just Alt + Tab to see it).

I put the video you shared looping in the background and it doesn't stop after hours.

The issue you are describing sounds like a youtube fault, not a problem with this script. Maybe you've been selected for some new experimental feature test on youtube (only you and a bunch other youtube accounts would be affected).

You can try in incognito with only this script running (maybe adblocker too, if you want). See if that works, I suspect one or more of the scripts/extensions you use are to blame. Even if they don't seem related to youtube, if they do something globally, like the adblocker, then it's a possible point of conflict.

If that doesn't work, then there could be something messed up in your browser, try clearing cache and other saved data, maybe reinstalling the browser can fix whatever corrupt data may be lingering.

Try with portable version before you start reinstalling. Portable version is good to test because it gives you a clean profile. If all is good there, then there is most likely something wrong with your main browser, try the aforementioned steps and see if that helps.

Thank you. For now, I can avoid the playback interruption issue using the method mentioned earlier. It doesn't seem like the problem lies with this script, so I don't plan to continue testing. If you change your mind in the future and become interested in my test data, please let me know.
